Open message to the University of Michigan community:

Thank you for your response to our appeal for blood donations and financial support.

The Red Cross is providing lifesaving assistance in the form of immediate disaster mass care and blood to victims and emergency workers following the recent incomprehensible attacks. The Red Cross is providing disaster relief in the form of food, shelter and mental health counseling to all individuals affected.

All disaster welfare inquiries from military and civilian families will be centralized through the Family Well-Being Inquiry Center. Call the Red Cross at (734) 971-5300.

The American Red Cross is sending over 50,000 units of blood into the affected areas as needed. Blood donors are encouraged to call 1-800-GIVE LIFE to schedule an appointment to donate. We will need steady contributions of blood over the coming weeks. If you cannot get through to 1-800-GIVE LIFE today, then please call again tomorrow or the day after. Your blood will be needed next week as much as it is needed today.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. Please write checks to "American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund" and send to:

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Kaye Sirotti
Executive Director
