ANN ARBOR—The Women of Color in the Academy Project (WOCAP) at the University of Michigan will be hosting the premiere screening of “Through My Lens,” a 28-minute video documenting the experiences and challenges of women of color at U-M. The screening is set for 4 p.m. April 16 in the Rackham Amphitheater, followed by a reception.

“Through My Lens” is a mix of reflections of University leaders and of tenured and tenure track women of color. The video highlights their contributions to the University community, as well as the challenges they face in the academy.

According to project coordinators, the final result is “a unique and memorable commentary and deserves to be shared with members of higher education in Michigan and across the country.”

Proposed by the Center for the Education of Women and the Women’s Studies Program at U-M, WOCAP grew out of discussions with women of color faculty who expressed their desire for extended, focused attention to issues pertaining to career satisfaction, successes and retention.

WOCAP has been supported since 1994 by the Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and the Office of the Vice President for Research. For more information, call Kristine Chandler at (734) 998-7185 or e-mail kraog@umich.edu
