Nov. 13, 2007 EVENT ANNOUNCEMENTU-M promotes AIDS awareness at Day With(out) Art eventDATE: 4 p.m. Dec. 1, 2007. EVENT: AIDS continues to have a devastating impact on performing and visual artists. Since 1989, people around the world have come together Dec. 1 to mourn those who have died from AIDS, and to heighten public awareness of the pressing need to combat the disease. Day With(out) Art as a day of commemoration has grown in scope and urgency. This year, more than 8,000 organizations will hold memorials. A reading from award-winning poet Robert Hass presented by the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) marks this year’s Day With(out) Art observance on the U-M campus. Hass is one of America’s most honored and widely read poets. He is an environmentalist, teacher and essayist who served as U.S. Poet Laureate, 1995-1997. PLACE: Rackham Amphitheater, 915 E.
