Search committee appointed for U-M Center for the Education of Women director

A 12-member search advisory committee has been appointed by University of Michigan Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Lester Monts to help identify candidates for the director of the Center for the Education of Women.

CEW offers services to students, faculty, staff and community members. It focuses on women’s education, employment, careers, leadership growth and development, and well being.

Cleo Caldwell, associate professor of Health Behavior and Health Education, School of Public Health, and faculty associate, Research Center for Group Dynamics, Institute for Social Research, serves as committee chair.

The committee will find a replacement for Carol Hollenshead, who will retire after 20 years as director on June 30. During those years, CEW has seen its scholarship program, counseling and research grow exponentially.

The National Council for Research on Women awarded CEW with the Member Center Award for 2005 for its research and policy having a significant impact.

The committee members are:
--Lisa Baker, former associate vice president; member of CEW's Leadership Council.
--Joyce French, Women of Color Task Force member; research assistant.
--Caroline Gaither, associate professor of Pharmacy; member of Women of Color in the Academy Project (WOCAP).
--Beth Halloran, executive director, UM Leadership and Program Development; CEW director of development.
