EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
NIH comes to Michigan Nov. 11 to brief life sciences community

DATE: 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009.

EVENT: Officials from the National Institutes of Health will brief Michigan's life sciences community—from academic researchers to entrepreneurs and industry scientists—on new opportunities.

Michigan's University Research Corridor, Biotechnology Business Consultants, and BioArbor are sponsoring sessions with two NIH program directors: Rosemarie Hunziker, program director of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering and Kay Etzler, NIH SBIR/STTR program analyst in the NIH Office of Extramural Programs.

The sessions include:

• NIH Funding for Academic Institutions: New proposal formats; different scoring; early stage investigations; ARRA funding opportunities—2009 has been a year of change at NIH. This URC-sponsored session will discuss NIH initiatives focused on academic and university researchers.

• Meet One-on-One with NIH: Schedule a one-on-one meeting with one of two NIH program directors. Appointments are limited to Michigan-based participants and must be scheduled in advance. A brief summary of the topic to be discussed will be required when requesting an appointment.

• NIH Funding for Life Science Companies and Entrepreneurs: BIR/STTR and Beyond…: From SBIR/STTR funding, to commercialization assistance programs, to other relevant NIH grant opportunities, NIH program staff will talk about the ins and outs of NIH funding for life science companies. Ample time for questions will be provided.

PLACES: The 10 a.m. event is at Blau Auditorium, at the U-M Ross School of Business, 701 Tappan St., Ann Arbor. For a map: http://www.umich.edu/news/Blau_Aud.jpg
