EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Harvard professor to lecture about poverty in the United States, worldwide

DATE: 4 p.m.–5:30 p.m., Nov. 12, 2009.

EVENT: Mary Jo Bane, the Thornton Bradshaw Professor of Public Policy and Management at Harvard University, will address poverty and policy from domestic and international perspectives. She will discuss alternative ways for addressing social policy, as well as the ever-changing social work roles as they pertain to the reduction of poverty.

Bane is also academic dean and chair of the Management and Leadership area at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Previously, she was assistant secretary for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as well as commissioner of the New York State Department of Social Services. She is the author of a number of books and articles on poverty, welfare, families and the role of churches in civic life.

The event is free and open to the public. In addition, this program has been approved for 1.5 continuing education hours by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. For those who will request academic credit for this lecture, the fee is $30.
