U-M experts available to discuss Iraqi prison treatment
ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The University of Michigan has several experts available to discuss topics related to the reported U.S. military abuse of Iraqi prisoners. They include:
• Juan Cole, professor of Middle Eastern and South Asian history, has studied the politics, culture and history of Shi'ite and Sunni Islam. He can be reached at (734) 764-6305.
• L. Rowell Huesmann, communication studies and psychology professor, can lend insight to the psychological impact the photos of abuse have on the public and soldiers, including the reasons why people would inflict this torture. He can be reached at (734) 647-3662.
• Catharine MacKinnon, Elizabeth A. Long Professor of Law, specializes in sex equality issues under constitutional and international law.
