DATE: Opens at 10:30 a.m. each day April 5-6, 2014.

EVENT: The 42nd annual Dance for Mother Earth Powwow will host some 200 competitive dancers, 10 drums and singers, and more than 40 vendors and artisans to celebrate Native American cultures and languages, traditions and foods from around the U.S. and Canada.

The 2014 powwow also will feature the art of King-Chavez-Parks Visiting Professor Jessica Metcalfe. A member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa tribe of North Dakota, Metcalfe has earned national renown for her visionary work in fashion design.

Now one of the largest university powwows in the nation, the 2014 Dance for Mother Earth Powwow continues to provide an important opportunity for Native Americans to celebrate and share the diversity of their indigenous cultures with one another and with the broader community.

Rooted in traditional Native American cultures, Dance for Mother Earth was founded by a small group of U-M Native American students and community members to honor the sacred relationships between the people and the planet.
