Former State Department spokesman, ambassador talks diplomacy

EVENT: “Networked Diplomacy: Exercising Influence in a Modern World”

Richard Boucher, the longest-serving spokesman of the U.S. Department of State and the Towsley Foundation Policymaker in Residence at the University of Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy, will speak about the shifting dynamics of global power in the 21st century.

Boucher most recently served as deputy secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. While at the State Department, he was assistant secretary of state for public affairs and assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs. He also served as ambassador to Cyprus. He’s teaching two half-semester courses at the Ford School during winter 2014: “Doing Diplomacy” and “Wielding Economic Power.”
