EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

DATE: 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015

EVENT: Luke Shaefer of the University of Michigan and sociologist Kathryn Edin of Johns Hopkins University will discuss their book “$2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America.”

After two decades of research on American poverty, Edin noticed something she hadn’t seen since the mid-1990s—households surviving on virtually no income. Edin teamed with Shaefer, U-M associate professor of social work and public policy and an expert on calculating incomes of the poor, to discover that the number of American families living on $2 per person per day, has skyrocketed to 1.5 million households, including about 3 million children.

The event is free to the public with a book signing and reception to follow. The event will be webstreamed live at fordschool.umich.edu. Join the conversation: #policytalks
