EVENT: “The Economic Stakes in the 2016 Election: A Nonpartisan Discussion”

Economic issues occupy center stage in the 2016 presidential race. The candidates have offered proposals to address economic issues ranging from immigration to trade, taxation to health care, regulation to the environment.

University of Michigan economics professors offer their professional views on pressing economic issues and the likely consequences of the solutions offered by the presidential candidates. Moderating the forum is Joel Slemrod, the Paul W. McCracken Collegiate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy and director of the Office of Tax Policy Research.

Panelists include:

  • Thomas Buchmueller, the Waldo O. Hildebrand Professor of Risk Management and Insurance and professor of business economics and public policy
  • Alan Deardorff, the John W. Sweetland Professor of International Economics and professor of economics and public policy
  • James Hines, the L. Hart Wright Collegiate Professor of Law and Richard Musgrave Collegiate Professor of Economics and research director of the Office of Tax Policy Research
  • Dean Yang, professor of economics and public policy and research professor at the Population Studies Center
