EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

EVENT: Susan Dynarski, a University of Michigan professor who is an expert on financial aid for higher education, will testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, at a hearing titled, “Reauthorizing the Higher Education Act: Financial Aid Simplification and Transparency.”

She will discuss: how other countries have designed their loan programs to work more effectively for borrowers, institutions, taxpayers, and economies; the differences between the American system of loan repayment and those of other countries; and what lessons Congress can draw from different models.

Dynarski is a nationally regarded expert on financial aid design optimization. She is a regular contributor to the New York Times. Read her column, America Can Fix Its Student Loan Crisis. She is co-founder and co-director of U-M’s Education Policy Initiative and has consulted broadly on student aid reform at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the White House and U.S. departments of Treasury and Education.
