U-M experts available to discuss China’s 4th plenum

ANN ARBOR—Elite members of China’s Communist Party plan to gather Oct. 20-23 for their “fourth plenum,” a planning meeting that is expected to focus on strengthening the nation’s rule of law.

Professors at the University of Michigan are available to discuss the legal, political and economic aspects of the closely watched meeting in Beijing. They include:

Nicholas Calcina Howson, professor of law, can discuss legal system and political-legal institutional issues in China. He writes and lectures widely on Chinese law topics, focusing on the Chinese judiciary and administrative agencies, corporate and securities law and constitutional law. He has acted as a consultant to the Ford Foundation, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and various Chinese government ministries and administrative departments, in particular with respect to the formulation of key Chinese statutes. Lynda Oswald, professor of business law, focuses on intellectual and real property law issues.
