Earth Day 2011: U-M Sustainability
U-M Hospitals and Health Centers increased their recycling efforts in April. Now people can find more receptacles for more kinds of personal beverage containers in the Cardiovascular Center, University Hospital, Cancer Center, Taubman Health Center, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Med Inn Building.

Earth Day 2011: U-M Sustainability
For the fifth consecutive year, U-M Hospitals and Health Centers received the Environmental Leadership Circle Award from Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization of health care facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations. In 2010, UMHHC recycled 1,846 tons of waste, and saved more than 1 million kilowatt hours through GreenIT programs.

Earth Day 2011: U-M Sustainability
The U-M Solar Car team won its third consecutive North American title in the American Solar Challenge. The team, widely recognized as the most successful team in North America, was established in 1990. It has built 10 vehicles, won the American Solar Challenge six times and placed third in the World Solar Challenge four times.

Earth Day 2011: U-M Sustainability
U-M won the nod to lead a $25 million U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center with MIT, Ohio State and other universities to develop clean vehicle technologies. The U.S. Department of Energy and private sources are funding the effort that brings together the world's two largest greenhouse gas-emitters and vehicle markets.

Earth Day 2011: U-M Sustainability
EarthFest: Party for the Planet featured a new name and new look to attract more attention for the annual Diag event to promote sustainability. Highlights included moon-suited volunteers carrying out a public, hands-on trash sort to demonstrate how much more office waste could be recycled instead of discarded.

Earth Day 2011: U-M Sustainability
The Great Lakes Integrated Sciences and Assessments program (GLISA) launched its program aimed at giving Michigan businesses and government agencies the information they need to adapt to climate change. The NOAA-funded program will focus on developing and communicating scientific information as it relates to agriculture, watershed management, and natural resources- based recreation and tourism.
