A. Sidney Johnson, head of American Public Welfare Association, to discuss child welfare April 14.

ANN ARBOR—A. Sidney Johnson, executive director of the American Public Welfare Association, will deliver the 1997 Fedele F. and Iris M. Fauri Memorial Lecture on Child Welfare at 3:30 p.m. April 14 in the Psychology Colloquium Room, fourth floor, East Hall, on the University of Michigan Central Campus.

Johnson, who graduated from the U-M in 1967 with a master’s degree in social work, will address the challenges and opportunities of child welfare.

Since 1986, Johnson has headed the APWA—a national, non-profit, bi-partisan association representing all 50 state human service agencies, 800 local welfare departments and 4,000 individual members.

He also directed the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, founded the Family Impact Seminar, and served as a consultant on child and family policy to former Vice President Walter Mondale.

The lecture is named in memory of Fedele Fauri, former U-M vice president and dean of social work, and his wife, Iris. Fedele Fauri held various state and federal government positions in social welfare, including serving as Social Security adviser to President John F. Kennedy and Congress.

Sponsored by the U-M School of Social Work, Johnson’s talk is free to the public. For more information, call (313) 763-2345.
