Miss America 1963 keynotes June 2 “Opening Doors” seminar for people with aphasia and their families

ANN ARBOR—Miss America 1963, Jacquelyn Townsend, will deliver the keynote address at the 7th annual Opening Doors seminar, sponsored by the University of Michigan Communicative Disorders Clinic. The seminar, June 2-3, will be held at the Holiday Inn North Campus in Ann Arbor.

More than a million Americans become aphasic each year, usually after strokes or injuries. People with aphasia?a total or partial loss of the ability to communicate through words?and their families from all over the Midwest will attend the two-day seminar. Sessions include strategies and resources for improving communication, alternative approaches to optimal health, psychological issues, healing through humor, and art, music and pet therapy.
