Students dedicate week to service
ANN ARBOR—Students at the University of Michigan will be dedicating the week of March 27-April 3 to community service. Committed to bringing an awareness to the community of a need and a means to make a difference, students, student groups, faculty and staff of the University along with members of the Ann Arbor community will participate in service experiences that will unify the diverse energies and strengths of all.
Highlights of “Serve Week ’98: Unity in Community” include SEED (Students Establishing Educational Dreams) on March 27 and April 3 when U-M students will host Detroit-area middle-school students to explore university life through campus tours, chemistry demonstrations, and hands-on work on computers. The mission of the program is to inspire these middle-school students to fulfill their higher education possibilities.
On “Senior Serve Day,” March 29 from noon-4:30 p.m., U-M’s senior students will be working on a variety of community projects including cleaning undesirable vegetation from U-M’s Nichols Arboretum and helping at the Wayne County Family Center, Recycle Ann Arbor, and Foodgatherers.
Consumer advocate Ralph Nader will speak at the Michigan Theater beginning at 7 p.m. March 30. Admission is free.
