Jonathan Schell to speak on Oct. 30

ANN ARBOR—For all of the sense of “safety” felt today with the end of the Cold War and arms race, there are still important steps to take to ensure humankind’s future, says Jonathan Schell, columnist and author of the recently published book, “The Gift of Time: The Case for Abolishing Nuclear Weapons Now.” Schell, recipient of the 1998 Cranbrook Peace Foundation Award, will make several free and public appearances in Ann Arbor on Oct. 30, capped by an address on this subject at 8 p.m. in the University of Michigan’s Rackham Amphitheater. Congresswoman Lynn Rivers will introduce Schell.

Schell has been a leading voice on the nuclear question ever since the publication of his best seller, “The Fate of the Earth.”

In addition to speaking at the Rackham Amphitheater, Schell will participate in a noon hour panel discussion at the U-M School of Natural Resources and Environment
