ANN ARBOR—The winter edition of the Michigan Quarterly Review, now available, features articles examining various literary works by authors ranging from aviators to University of Michigan alumni.

Anne Herrmann, associate professor of English and women’s studies at the U-M, contributes an essay on Amelia Earhart. Herrmann examines her autobiographies and life as well as the lives of other aviators, including Charles Lindbergh and Bessie Coleman.

Helen Vendler, the A. Kingsley Porter University Professor at Harvard University, includes her Tanner Lecture, which she delivered last October at U-M. Vendler discusses Walt Whitman’s poems on the death of Abraham Lincoln.

Alice Mattison, writing teacher at Bennington College, describes her years writing with Jane Kenyon, poet and distinguished U-M alumna.

MQR is published quarterly; yearly subscriptions can be purchased for $18, and single copies are available for $5. Contact MQR at Room 3032, Rackham Building, for more details.
