ANN ARBOR—The second annual conference of the Social Security Retirement Research Consortium will be held May 17 and 18 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The conference topic is the Outlook for Retirement Income, according to Lee Lillard, an economist at the University of Michigan who directs the Michigan Retirement Research Center, and Alicia H. Munnell, who directs the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.

Among the sessions scheduled are Does Marriage Matter? The Joint Retirement Decision; How do Women Fare in Retirement?; Responses to Social Security and Pension Retirement Incentives; How Progressive is Social Security Now and in the Future?; Consume Now or Later—are 401(k)s Really Used for Retirement Savings?; Retirement Behavior and the Income of Younger Retirees; and the Future of Pension Systems.

The conference will highlight new findings by researchers from the U-M, the Urban Institute, the National Bureau of Economic Research, the University of Chicago, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Brookings Institution, and other members of the Consortium, established through a five-year grant from the Social Security Administration.

Lillard and Munnell will delivery introductory remarks, along with Jane L. Ross, deputy commissioner for policy, Social Security

Administration. Closing remarks will be delivered by William A. Halter, deputy commissioner, and Kenneth Apfel, commissioner, Social Security Administration.
