ANN ARBOR – Gary M. Bernstein, University of Michigan assistant professor of astronomy, is co-author of an important study published in the May 11 issue of the journal Nature. Working with astronomers from other institutions, Bernstein detected the large-scale distribution of an invisible form of matter in the universe called “dark matter,” which makes its presence felt through its gravity. The nature and distribution of dark matter is one of the biggest mysteries in science.

Complete details on the study are available in a press release distributed today from Bell Labs, the research and development arm of Lucent Technologies.
