The following statement was released today (May 12) by William C. Martin, interim director of intercollegiate athletics:

“Last December the University of Michigan ordered its athletic equipment for the forthcoming year, and in recent weeks the status of that order has been unclear. We are now able to announce that Nike will be filling that order. This agreement reflects a recognition that the University’s athletes and coaches need to be able to focus on the work ahead. We also have agreed to a continuation of our licensing relationship for the coming year. Our student athletes and coaches deserve our full support, and we believe this agreement will ensure that they can concentrate on doing their best this coming year. The University will continue to explore its options for longer term relationships.”
