ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan’s Bentley Historical Library has mounted “Shakespeare on Campus,” a photographic review of professional and amateur performances of the Bard’s works on the U-M campus.

Organized in conjunction with the coming March residency of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the exhibit includes images and documents highlighting the various theatrical, musical, dance, and scholarly interpretations of Shakespeare’s works by U-M drama groups, visiting professional performers, and U-M faculty through the years.

Among the featured artifacts is a turn-of-the-century photograph of Shakespearean Pageant members in diaphanous dress; notes, ca. 1950, from U-M Shakespeare scholar George B. Harrison; and an 1807 edition of “The Dramatic Works of William Shakespeare,” owned by U-M founder John Montieth.

“Shakespeare on Campus” will continue through April and can be seen at the Bentley Historical Library, located on U-M’s North Campus at 1150 Beal Ave. Map of North Campus, Bentley Library lower right]
