Sarah Ann Giza of Dearborn, a senior in LSA, concentrating in health and the history of medicine, had a kidney transplant her freshman year and has had multiple surgeries, along with other medical problems. Her senior thesis for the Residential College (an LSA unit): “The Things Not Said in Hallmark Cards: The Benefits of a Peer Resource Consultant and the Chronic Renal Patient.” Giza is a volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation and the Gift of Life, an organization that supports organ donations. She is a published poet who plans to attend law school.

While Joe Quasarano is older than most graduates, Joshua Cullen of Livonia is younger. The 16-year-old from Livonia will receive a degree from the School of Music in piano, and plans to attend graduate school to continue his keyboard studies. Cullen has been playing since he was 3, and already has an all-Mozart CD that is available through Amazon.com. Last year, Cullen won the School’s annual Concerto Competition; he has performed throughout the United States and internationally.
