November conference on interlibrary loan, document deliveryANN ARBOR—An exploration of issues surrounding interlibrary loan and document delivery will be featured during a two-day national conference scheduled for Nov. 8-9 at the University of Michigan.

Sponsored by the University Library and the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), “Shaping Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery in the 21st Century,” will highlight a state-of-the-art review of current services. It will also provide an opportunity to explore the benefits and complexities of emerging service options such as direct consortial borrowing, explain the role of technology, and highlight effective service improvements.

A keynote presentation by Shirley Baker, vice chancellor for information technology and dean of University Libraries at Washington University in St. Louis, will provide an overview of current and future issues, challenges, and opportunities for interlibrary loan and document delivery services.

Other featured speakers include: Kate Adams, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Anne K. Beaubien, University of Michigan; Tom Delaney, Colorado State University; Martha Fischel, National Library of Medicine; Joanne Halgren, University of Oregon; Peggy E. Hoon, North Carolina State University; Mary E. Jackson, Association of Research Libraries; Lars Leon, University of Kansas; Danuta Nitecki, Yale University; Phyllis Spies, OCLC; Jim Vaughn, University of Chicago; Linda West, Research Libraries Group; Mary Williamson, Wisconsin Library Services; Mark Wilson, the Library Corporation/CARL; and Christopher Wright, Library of Congress.

The conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 and continue through the end of the day of Nov. 9. There will be an opportunity for informal discussions during a reception on Nov 8, immediately following the conference meetings. Vendor exhibits will open at noon on Nov 8.
