Ann Arbor cable channel 22 schedules special broadcast

ANN ARBOR—A special broadcast featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian, Doris Kearns Goodwin, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 14) on the University of Michigan educational access channel 22 on Comcast in the Ann Arbor region.

Kearns Goodwin, who is well-known for her expertise on the nation’s presidents, delivered the keynote presentation, “Shared Memories: The Lessons of History,” at the University Library’s Making of America celebration held earlier this year. The broadcast Features introductory remarks from Sidney Fine, U-M’s Andrew Dickson White Professor Emeritus of History, and Kearns Goodwin’s presentation that includes a sharing of her experiences in writing three presidential biographies as well as her own memoir on growing up in the ’50s in love with the Brooklyn Dodgers. (She has since become a Boston Red Sox fan.)

The celebration centered on the Making of America (MoA) project that includes more than three million pages of digitized documents, most of which were published between 1850 and 1876. The documents focus on topics ranging from the life and death of Abraham Lincoln to the latest 19th century household sciences to reflections on travel to the western United States.
