Get ready, here they come!

ANN ARBOR—The Housing Office at the University of Michigan has set student move-in plans that call for 12 city streets on or near the U-M campus to have non-standard traffic flow from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 27-30. Commercial vending agents will offer items for sale to students at three locations. Vending activity will take place at the triangle parking lot between Madison, Thompson, and Packard; at the Stockwell Hall parking lot behind Stockwell; and at the Bursley Hall Parking Lot on Hubbard St. The University’s Move-In program, which works in conjunction with the City of Ann Arbor, assigns each student a specific day to move in to help ease traffic congestion on and around campus, and will help to ensure as little traffic delay as possible to the University and the Ann Arbor community. Parents and students have been asked not to arrive on campus before 9 a.m. or to drive on or around campus between 4 and 6 p.m. to minimize traffic while University staff and other community employees arrive at and depart from the campus and downtown area during peak rush hours.

University faculty and staff are encouraged, when possible, to choose alternative travel routes which avoid residence hall areas. Should travel near a residence hall be unavoidable, officers from University Housing Security, the U-M Department of Public Safety and the Ann Arbor Police Department will be stationed at entry points near main intersections to assist in keeping the traffic moving and to direct students to unloading spaces by each hall. The city streets which will have non-standard traffic flow from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. during move-in are:

—Thompson – from East William to Packard —Madison – from South Division to South State —Jefferson – from South Division to Maynard —Maynard – from Jefferson to East William —East University – from Hill to Willard —Willard – from Church to East University —Church – from Hill to Willard —Observatory – from Geddes to East Ann —North University Court —Washington Heights – from Observatory to E.
