ANN ARBOR, Mich.&#151In response to many requests from individual students and student groups, the Office of Vice President for Student Affairs announced the opening of a reflection room in the Michigan League. Room 347 is a temporary location to be used through Aug. 1, 2003. The reflection room, which will be available daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., is intended for students and other members of the University community to meditate, pray and otherwise spend time in quiet reflection. The room was furnished by the Michigan League with the assistance of the Association of Religious Counselors, representing religious and spiritual communities that serve the students, faculty and staff of the University. "We have looked long and hard for a room that could meet this very important need, which is designed to complement the religious and spiritual resources already available to students," said Royster Harper, vice president for student affairs. "We will continue our efforts to identify a permanent location. In the meantime, I encourage our community to make use of this quiet place at a busy crossroads on central campus." Graham Baird, president of the Association of Religious Counselors, praised the University for making the space available. "We appreciate the University for offering its community this additional chance to make a deeper sense of spirituality a part of the educational experience, something we think is very important," Baird said.
