Entry deadline for Spring Commencement student speaker is announced

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Students who wish to speak at the University of Michigan Spring Commencement must submit speeches by 5 p.m. March 5. The commencement ceremony will be held at 9:15 a.m. April 26 in Michigan Stadium. The competition is open to U-M students who will receive a bachelor’s degree during winter or summer term 2003. Submissions must consist of a typed draft of the speech and a standard audiocassette or CD-ROM of the author delivering the speech, which must be no longer than five minutes. Students also are asked to submit a curriculum vitae or resume highlighting their scholarship and campus leadership activities, and include an e-mail address and local phone number where they can be reached. A cover letter is not necessary. A committee of students, faculty and staff selects the student commencement speaker. Committee members look for a speech that emphasizes academic pursuits and experiences unique to the U-M and that is brief and well written. Submit entries to the Office of the Vice President for Communications, 2040 Fleming Building, 1340. Attention: Student Speaker Entries.
