ANN ARBOR—With North Korea re-starting nuclear operations and warning of "total war” with the United States, tensions continue to mount. Here is a list of faculty from the University of Michigan who are available to comment: Korean politics

Meredith Woo-Cumings is a professor of political science whose interests include the international political economy, East Asian politics and U.S.-East Asian relations. In 1996, the native of South Korea was appointed by President Clinton to serve on the Presidential Commission on U.S.-Pacific Trade and Investment Policy. She has authored six books, co-authored a Presidential Report on trade and investment policy and consulted for the World Bank, the U.S. Trade Representative, the Asian Development Bank Institute and several other groups. Kenneth Lieberthal, William Davidson Professor of Business, is an expert on U.S./Asia foreign policy, having served in the White House as special assistant to the President for Asia and as the National Security Council’s senior director for Asia during the Clinton Administration. Henry Em, is professor of Korean history, Department of Asian Languages & Cultures, and his interests include Korean nationalism/intellectual history, Japanese colonialism and the Korean War. He came to the United States in 1968 when he was eight years old. He won the USIA Fulbright Senior Scholar Award in 1998 and previously worked at the Inch’on Urban Industrial Mission documenting labor conditions and workers’ struggles and at the Institute of Religion and Culture in the Philippines documenting human rights abuses in the countryside, 1982-1983. E. Han Kim is the Fred M. Taylor Professor of Business Administration, Director of Mitsui Life Financial Research Center and Professor of Finance and International Business. He is an expert on the Asian economy and financial markets and was an adviser on the South Korean government’s Debt Renegotiation Team in 1998 and served as a consultant to the Korea Stock Exchange.
