U.S. Supreme Court hearing April 1 in affirmative action cases

ANN ARBOR—The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on April 1 about the constitutionality of the University of Michigan’s use of affirmative action in admissions to its Law School and its undergraduate college. U-M won lower court victories upholding its policies. Those lower court rulings are now under review by the Supreme Court. The Court will hear arguments in the Law School case, which is called Grutter v. Bollinger, at 10 a.m., and on the undergraduate case, which is called Gratz v. Bollinger, at 11 a.m. A limited number of tickets are made available to the public. There is no radio or television coverage permitted.
