U-M surgeon aids Grand Rapids neighborhoods with auto safety

EVENT: Stephen Rowe, a trauma surgeon at the University of Michigan Medical School who is active in the U-M Program for Injury Research and Education (UMPIRE), will hold a train-the-trainer program to teach neighborhood leaders on the effective use of car booster seats.

Each participant will then be given a booster seat kit, complete with video and pamphlets, to then train and educate parents in each of the city’s neighborhoods.

Rowe was part of the University’s Michigan Road Scholars program where University experts tour the state each year as part of an outreach effort to increase mutual knowledge between the University and Michigan communities. Those attending Rowe’s presentation will then teach others.

UMPIRE engages in advanced research in a variety of fields, ranging from automobile design to burn research, bringing together experts from a variety of disciplines from engineering to health to allow for unique perspectives producing innovative results

TIME: 9 to 11 a.m.
