ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The 2003 Fall Student Move-In will be held Aug. 26-29. The University of Michigan & the City of Ann Arbor Move-In Task Force and the University Housing Move-In Planning Group recently completed plans for the program.

MOVE-IN MAKERS AND GREEK LIFE VOLUNTEERS Move-In Makers, the student volunteer welcoming committee, will provide assistance by welcoming students and their parents, answering questions and directing vehicles and pedestrians through the Move-In process. Volunteers from the Office of Greek Life will participate in the Move-In Makers program by assisting newly arriving students in moving items from their vehicles to their residence hall rooms.

UNLOADING PERMITS DURING MOVE-IN Students have been sent a 30-minute unloading/parking permit with their move-in materials. This permit allows them to unload their belongings near their assigned hall. Any vehicle without a valid parking permit is subject to being ticketed and towed. Also, overnight parking next to U-M residence halls is not permitted during move-in.

STREET CLOSURES Several streets (listed below) within or near the U-M campus will have non-standard traffic flow beginning on Aug. 26, and continuing through Aug. 29. Routes near U-M residence halls will have barricades at both ends with security and police personnel directing traffic to unloading zones. Although regular city traffic is permitted along barricaded streets, there will be only one travel lane on these streets.

If drivers not involved in move-in can avoid the affected streets, traffic delays will become less likely. To further decrease delays, faculty and staff are encouraged to travel to and from work before 9 a.m., and between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., when streets are the least congested with move-in traffic. Please note that these street closures will occur after the Aug. 22 two-way opening of State, Liberty, N. University, Maynard, and Thompson streets. Members of the City and University communities are advised that traffic congestion may be especially concentrated in this area.
