U-M remembers victims of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks

ANN ARBOR—Events will be held at the University of Michigan to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The events, which are free and open to the public, include:

Sept. 84 p.m. “The Middle East Challenge: Coming to Grips with Islam, Democracy, and Terrorism.” Pendleton Room, Michigan Union, 520 South State St.

Robin Wright, global affairs correspondent for The Los Angeles Times, will deliver the 2003 Josh Rosenthal Education Fund Lecture. Wright, a 1970 U-M graduate and five-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, has reported from more than 130 countries and appears regularly on Meet the Press.

The fund—which is housed at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy—was established in memory of Josh Rosenthal, a 1979 U-M graduate who died at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The fund supports lectures, seminars, research and student internships that encourage new understandings of global issues.

Students and community members will gather for a candlelight vigil with music and remarks.
