EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT Cuban expert Carmelo Mesa-Lago will speak at WDI seminar Jan. 21

DATE: 4-5:30 p.m. Jan. 21

EVENT: Carmelo Mesa-Lago, a leading expert on the Cuban economy, will discuss Cuba’s current socio-economic situation and prospects at a William Davidson Institute (WDI) Latin American Series seminar.

PLACE: Room D1273 at the University of Michigan Business School’s Davidson Hall, corner of Tappan and Monroe streets.

BACKGROUND: Mesa-Lago is a distinguished professor emeritus of economics and Latin American studies at the University of Pittsburgh and former professor and research scholar on international relations and Latin America at Florida International University.

He is author of 60 books and more than 200 articles and book chapters on Latin America’s social security and health care, the Cuban economy and comparative economic systems. His most recent book is “Market, Socialist and Mixed Economies: Comparative Policy and Performance–Chile, Cuba and Costa Rica.”
