Economist Albert Fishlow will speak at WDI panel on Brazil

DATE: 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 11, 2004

EVENT: The William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan Business School will co-host a panel discussion, "Brazil: A New Global Leader," to explore Brazil’s international economic and political role. Panelists include: Albert Fishlow, a leading expert on the Brazilian economy; Horacio Forjaz, executive vice president of communications at Embraer, one of the world’s largest aircraft builders; and Nelson Silva, global commercial director at CVRD, the biggest iron ore mining company in the world. Katherine Terrell, professor of business and public policy and WDI faculty, will moderate the discussion.

Panelists will address the challenges Brazil faces in becoming an emerging market power and the country’s leading role in international discussions of free trade within the FTAA and the WTO. In addition, the group will discuss the position of Brazilian businesses in the global economy as they have become more competitive and invest outside its borders.
