ISR Roots of Terrorism Initiative sponsors talks

DATE: 4 p.m., Thursday, March 11

EVENTS: The Roots of Terrorism Initiative at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research (ISR) presents a colloquium exploring the strategic importance, causes and consequences of terrorism. At the invitation-only opening ceremony March 11, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will share her thoughts on the dangers terrorism presents and the strategies that need to be developed to combat it.

At the scientific colloquium on Saturday, March 13, a multidisciplinary group of scholars will discuss how current research increases our understanding of terrorism and provides practical guidance on how to address its causes and consequences. Among the participants are U-M researchers Scott Atran, Emilio Cardenas, Juan Cole, L. Rowell Huesmann, Michael Kennedy, Robert Precht, Lawrence Pintak, Mark Tessler and Dawn Tilbury. Todd Stewart of the Ohio State Program for Homeland Security will also participate.
