Experts available on female aggression and aggression research

ANN ARBOR—From a photo of a female U.S. soldier holding a leash on an Iraqi prisoner to hit movies including "Kill Bill: Volume 2," female aggression has become a prominent topic of discussion.

The University of Michigan has many experts who can discuss issues of aggression. They include:

L. Rowell Huesmann, communication studies and psychology professor, is director of U-M’s Aggression Research Program, which focuses on understanding the development of aggressive and antisocial behavior. The program also helps connect a variety of research efforts addressing related issues such as peer-relations, the effects of arousal and emotions on social judgment, and the effects of the mass media on behavior. Brad Bushman, a communications and psychology researcher affiliated with the U-M Institute for Social Research, focuses on the causes and consequences of human aggression and violence. He was recently interviewed on the CBS Evening News about a new video game created by the U.S. Army to recruit American teenagers. He has conducted more than four decades worth of research on the development of aggression and violence in children, writing nine books on the topic. His work has included The Columbia County Study, which started in 1960 by following 856 subjects who were 8 years old, following up with how they had evolved at age 18 and then recently as they approached age 50. Jacquelynne Eccles, a professor in psychology and the School of Education, is a senior researcher at U-M’s Gender and Achievement Research Program.
