Experts available for D-Day-related coverage and features

ANN ARBOR—The 60th anniversary of D-Day on Sunday includes a large gathering of international leaders in Normandy with past and present wars high on the agenda.

President Bush will meet with European leaders and make a major address as presidents Reagan and Clinton did during previous Normandy anniversaries. D-Day changed Europe and its repercussions continue to be felt today. The University of Michigan has many experts who can discuss such issues. They include:

• Jonathan Marwil, history lecturer, is an expert on modern Europe and war, particularly wars of the 20th century. He has done research and writing on the valorization, memorialization and representation of war. He studies and teaches about military and impact of war on society. • David Fitzpatrick, a visiting professor of history and an expert on military history, has twice visited Normandy. He has also specialized in modern U.S. history. • Brian Porter, associate history professor, has taught the history of both World War I and World War II as well as European history.
