ANN ARBOR— University of Michigan President Emeritus Harlan Hatcher will receive the U-M Alumni Association‘s Spirit of Michigan Award at the annual Go Blue Brunch Oct. 28.

The award, established in 1990, honors ” an individual who exemplifies the best in Michigan tradition and dedication through substantial, continuous service, example and commitment to the ideals and mission” of the U-M.

Hatcher headed the University from 1951 until 1968. His presidency stretched from the postwar boom of the 1950s into the student activist days of the 1960s. Retired for more than two decades, President Emeritus Hatcher has remained one of the University’s most enthusiastic and committed supporters.

The award presentation will be part of the Alumni Association’s 19th annual Go Blue Brunch preceding the Homecoming game against the University of Minnesota. The brunch, which begins at 12:30 p.m. at the U-M’s Track and Tennis Building, will include appearances by current and alumni U-M cheerleaders, the Michigan Marching Band, and U-M President James J. Duderstadt. Andrea Joyce, host of CBS Television’s ” Eye on Sports” and ” At the Half,” will be master of ceremonies.
